Samsung Will Offer Developer Edition Galaxy S III with Unlockable Bootloader

This is good news and then at the same time it is really bad news. I am glad that Samsung has decided to step up to the plate here and offer a developer friendly option. The main issue that I have with this is that thousands have already preordered their phone. Some of those who preordered have already received and activated said phone. Also this version will run you $599 and there is no subsidized option through Verizon you will have to purchase this directly from Samsung. The overwhelming majority of people won’t purchase this version. This just proves that the locked bootloader was Verizon’s decision. The best scenario would be to issue an unlocking tool for all devices with the understanding that you would be voiding your warranty. I am an adult let me make the decision!

Sound off below what are your thoughts. Will you be ponying up the $600 for the developer version, or are you going to rely on the development community to hopefully come up with a workaround?

Gonna sit tight for the developers I believe. 600 is a fair amount of cash for a phone

Its not a big deal if you dont already have a phone. For me the issue is that the general public wont know about the unlocked device. So if they aren’t familiar with the root community hey buy the phone and later decide they want to mod it they will be screwed. If Verizon is going to allow an unlockable device on their network why not give us the option to unlock the device we already have.I think that is reasonable.
