Some new camera improvements are included in the source code of Android. Improvements include burst mode, improved face detections, and the ability to work with RAW photos. Since the updates would be included in the Android API any manufacturer could include them in their own builds of Android. It appears that these new features may have been meant for Kit Kat, but were removed prior to Kit Kat release because they were not ready. It seems as if Google is finally ready to address the only issue that Android has consistently had in the camera.
