It seems that Verizon is looking to get rid of their Pixel inventory. They have just announced that they will be giving away a FREE Google Home with the purchase of a Pixel. The Google Home is a $129 value. Verizon has not even made it a requirement to buy a Pixel or Pixel XL on a payment plan, or atleast they have not made that requirement clear. Once you have purchased the phone you will be able to redeem the Google Home through Verizon’s rebate center within 30 days of purchase. They are also offering $100 off certain phones when you use the code “SMART100” at checkout.

Download Samsung Always On Display App!

galaxy-s7-always-on-display

Samsung has just released their Always On Display App to the Play Store. This is great news for Samsung users who use the feature daily to check their time, date and notifications without actually having to pick up their phone. The app is now updateable directly from the Play Store. This means that simply updating the Always On Display will no longer require  a full software update to be sent out ota. This also may mean that we see more features added more quickly to the app over time now that it will be easier for Samsung to push out updates.

How To Unlock The LG G6 Bootloader!

11-LG-G6.@750

If you want to be able to easily root your phone and flash custom roms you are going to need an unlocked bootloader. Over time OEMs have decided it is less advantageous for them to allow you to be able to remove whatever bloat ware apps you like installing your own custom software and have made it increasingly difficult to unlock the bootloader on their devices. LG has continued to be developer friendly allowing their devices to be bootloader unlocked.

LG just released the bootloader unlock method for the European LG G6. You can now use their official bootloader unlock tool. Know that if you do use the tool to unlock your bootloader your device’s warranty is void. The bootloader process apparently can not be reversed so it’s not like you could just relock it to get your warranty back. The fact that the European bootloader will be unlockable may mean there is hope for root on US variants as well. You can head to the link below to access the bootloader unlock tool which will walk you through the process step by step.

iPhone 8 Design Shown Off In Leak

iphonecomapre_main_1496234310149

The iPhone 8 is expected to release later this year with a 5.8″ display. It is also expected to adopt the thinner bezel design of the Galaxy S8 and LG G6. This means the device will feature the larger display while keeping a smaller overall footprint. The leaked dimensions of the device are 143.59×70.94×7.57mm which is only slightly bigger than the iPhone 7 at 138.3×67.1×7.1mm. This is even smaller than the Galaxy S8 which also features a 5.8″ display. The edge to edge display is really making quite the difference in size.

One other detail worth noting is that the iPhone 8 renders do not show a fingerprint scanner on the back. Apple may or may not be able to embed the fingerprint scanner under the front glass with this device. This is something Samsung was working on with the Galaxy S8, but wasn’t able to finish before the release of the phone.

Puerto Rico is a territory of the US, however it isn’t always treated as being part of the same country when it comes to business and trade. For now Puerto Rico will be able to get their hands on the Pixel, Daydream View, Samsung Chromebook Plus, and some accessories. The Puerto Rico Google Store can be found at the link below.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ Unlocked Variants Are Now Available In The US

unlocked-galaxy-s8-plus-980x613

If you have been waiting on a pure unlocked version of the Galaxy S8 or S8+ the wait is over. Unlocked variants of the phones are now available in the US. It is a shame that Samsung wasn’t able to offer these alongside the original pre-order devices in May, but now you will be able to order one and see it in a day or two. The devices may also be available in stores soon. One plus side to buying an unlocked version of the device is that you won’t have to put up with any of the awful carrier bloat that is pre-loaded on carrier versions. The phones will also work with any US carriers out of the box. For now Black is your only color option.

OmniROM Just Released Their Android Nougat 7.1.2 Build

omni_n5

I have not thought about OmniROM or any rom for that matter in quite some time. The last time I regularly flashed roms was with the Nexus 6P. The scene just kind of fizzled out as more and more OEMs decided to slim down their stock software and add more customization features. The fact that some of these roms are still going strong is incredible! The fact that I update phones several times a year means I have less of a need for custom roms. One of the great things about custom roms like OmniROM is that you can update your device to the latest and greatest builds of Android far after the OEM has end of lifed your device.

OmniROM just released their latest build bringing their rom up to Android 7.1.2. The OmniROM provides a clean experience with little added bloat. The list of supported devices includes Moto G4 and G4 Plus, Redmi Note 3, Sony Xperia Z5, OnePlus One, Nexus 9, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X along with a few others. Head to the link below for a full list of devices and features.

Samsung Delaying The Rollout Of English Language Bixby Assistant

s8_plus_photos-169-1500x994

By now it seems most of us have forgotten or either dismissed the idea of using Bixby as our daily voice assistant. The feature looked promising at the S8 launch event, but after having time to sleep on it many of us realized just how redundant the service is when Android already has an assistant baked right in to the software. That coupled with the fact that Samsung wasn’t prepared to launch Bixby voice assistant alongside the Galaxy S8 killed whatever hype remained pretty quickly.

It turns out that Samsung will have to delay the rollout of the English language version of Bixby even after promising a release date by the end of Spring. We are still a few weeks away from the release and this is due to the unexpected difficulty Samsung is having with the English language. Bixby has trouble grasping the intricacies of the language especially the syntax and grammar of English. Bixby is supposed to allow you to control your phone with voice on an app by app basis, so it doesn’t seem promising that Samsung is having such a difficult time getting this right. For now the international launch is expected to be held back until the end of June. That will only happen if Bixby can get a handle on English.

Are any of you still worried about being able to use Bixby on your S8? Is this a feature that was a decision making factor in your purchase of the phone?
