HTC has not really been in the limelight over the past few years. Last year Samsung put a major dent in the company’s release schedule by buying up the initial batch of Snapdragon 835 chips. Other manufacturers had to either delay their flagship release or settle for a last gen chip. HTC decided to release the U Ultra which was a great phone which happened to feature a last gen Snapdragon 821 chip. The phone also caught some flack for not making good use of internal space. The phone was oversized but lacked a headphone jack, wireless charging, water resistance, and probably should have packed in a larger battery. Some reviewers even urged HTC to go back to the drawing board.
HTC seems to have done just that with the upcoming HTC U12! LLabTooFeR dropped some knowledge about the device a few days ago which. His story was corroborated by none other than Evan Blass. The new flagship should look more like a modern smartphone with an 18:9 aspect ratio. We will finally get some dust and water resistance to compete with other leading smartphones. The display will be a 5.99″ QHD+ screen. Other specs include the current gen Snapdragon 845 CPU, up to 6GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, Sony made dual lens camera with 12MP and 16MP sensors on the back and an 8MP sensor on the front, 3420mah battery, and a fingerprint scanner.
It should be noticed that the leaks do not detail a headphone jack. Most manufacturers that have moved away from the aging tech have not decided to bring it back. This is likely the case with HTC. The Taiwanese manufacturer decided to skip MWC due to Samsung’s presence there. We should see the U12 released in at a stand alone event sometime in March or April. Is anyone else excited to see this new device?
